[net.auto] Electronic Ignition

I own a Saab 99 EMS (Wagonback 1974) and I am thinking of
replacing the standard ignition system by a breakerless system.
I would probably use the Allison (sp?) system. Has anyone had
any experiece with this system in particular, or with
other after-market breakerless systems?

If there are enough answers I'll summarize them and post
them to the net.

Thanks,	eduardo.

p.s. the system died on me the first time, so you may get this duplicated.

I installed a Heathkit CD ignition when I bought my 1976 VW Dasher.
Before I installed it, I experienced lead-fouling of the plugs
(lead droplets formed on the plugs!!). The dealers knew of the problem
but had no fix. The Heath CD eliminated the entire problem, plus
increased the performance noticably, made cold weather starting MUCH
faster, greatly increased both point and plug life. I like the Heath
unit because it uses the points for the timing pulse, so if the unit
ever craps out, I can switch back to conventional ignition with the
flick of a switch (a nice backup).

problems:
since my VW had fuel injection, connecting the unit was a little
different. I coulnt get my car to start till I found a NOTE in
the installation manual concerning fuel injection. Following the
instructions, and a little rewiring, I got the unit to work.

Also, high energy ignitions will "chew up" conventional ignition
wire IN NO TIME!! So if you switch, be sure to install silicon
ignition wire.

I highly recommend converting!! Good luck!!
