I have seen over the net a lot of oil talk being bantered about. "Can I use Mobil 1", "What about multi viscosity.." etc.... Well I have just purchased a 1985 S-10 blazer and I asked the dealer about warrantys, Mobil 1 and the likes. He seems to think that Mobil 1 is fine and will not void the warranty. Just to make sure I looked up the oil recommendations in my new handy dandy S-10 Owner's and Drivers Manual and lo and behold on page 5-4 under "Choosing Oil Viscosity (Gasoline Engins) it says in part "If outside temperatures are not expected to exceed 30 deg.C(100F.) prior to your next oil change, SF-quality, SAE 5W-30, Energy-Conserving engine oil is the preferred viscosity grade." "Well" you might ask "how about the break-in period?" I'm glad you asked because I too was concerned about this. A call to our friendly Mobil HP hotline (1-800-MOBILHP) got me the answer. I was told that all engines need a certain break-in period to do what ever they do during there break-in (I guess it's to seat all those little innards correctly). Anyway Mobil said that 7500 miles is the magic number for break-ins. To make a long story short ( I know too late) I plan to use Mobil 1 after the 7500 mile point and probely change it every four or five thousand miles. I know that the stuff is suppose to be good for upteen thousand miles but the cost won't kill me and besides alot of zorkmids were laid out for this vehicle and I would like to make it last. One more thing, thanks all you netters for the oil information. A good deal of creative thinking is shared on this net. Dave Wargo ****Truth is it's own reward**** ucbvax!sdcsvax!sdcsla:wargo
