[comp.windows.ms] Win 3.0 driver for WYSE 700

katefans@world.std.com (Chris'n'Vickie of Chicago) (11/07/90)

   Hello there,

Please forgive me if this has been mentioned before, but I am
having no fun at all upgrading a customer to Windows 3.0. Here's
the problem...

    A WYSE 700 graphics card and a
      AMDEK 1280 monitor

The WYSE was a 600 x 800 monochrome TTL card from the bad old days
BV (before VGA). This was purchased from Computerland but they now know
nothing about it. The only driver for it that I have been able to find
is for Windows 2.11, and only displays at CGA res.
Repeated calls to WYSE have ranged from fruitless to infuriating.
Representing myself as an end user gets the "CALL YOUR DEALER"
(delivered in a robotic monotone) response. Calling from work as a VAR
gets the same robot saying "CALL YOUR DISTRIBUTOR" and then hanging up.
Simply sticking a VGA card in the thing isn't an option due to the
fact that the monitor is TTL.
The customer has to upgrade because they purchased CorelDraw but it
won't work at CGA.
It seems Microsoft changes the specs. for Windows drivers every release
in order to sell developers kits and has no interest in writing drivers
for "obsolete" cards.
Any help in locating a driver or other workable solution will be
gratefully appreacated.

                                   Chris Williams

Don't limit your options so quickly.. ATI cards work with TTL monitors!
