I'm thinking about buying a Subaru 4x4 station wagon and was wondering if anyone has any experience (good and/or bad) with Subaru 4 wheel drive cars. I'm looking at a 1981 or newer. Is the 4 wheel drive useful? How about gas mileage around town/highway without the 4 wheel drive going? Are repairs expensive and do they occur often? How does the car handle? I would appreciate any information you have on the above. My impression is that the Subaru 4 wheel drive station wagons are really nice cars, but I want to know what other people think.
