I just wanted to thank everyone who responded to my questions about 1. Word for Windows, High Res drivers for Orchid Pro-Designer II. 2. Setting up applications in Windows Setup. Too many to thank individually, but thanks to all of you. For those who wanted the same information, here are the solutions: 1. To install the Hi-res drivers, you should follow the 'Standard procedure' documented on the Orchid Windows driver disk. I actually went through the long installation procedure, but just using the short approach described first should also work. When you actually select the driver that you want, pick the HIGHEST resolution driver that is available, i.e. supported by your video card (how much memory you have on the card is important here.). That way, Windows will copy the right fonts into your directory. After that, you can choose lower res modes, and they will also work. Doing it this way, Word for Windows works perfectly! 2. When you first install Windows, or if you later want to use Windows Setup to add applications, you must watch out for two things. (a) You should have a 'lastdrive = (whatever drive is your last)' statement in your config.sys file. (b) Your path variable should not be over 128 characters, so you may need to temporarily shorten it. I am not sure if both of these are necessary, but doing both in combination did fix my problem of Windows crashing when trying to automatically search for applications on the hard disk. Good luck, and once again thanks for the overwhelming response. Ty A. Lasky lasky@iris.ucdavis.edu
