[comp.windows.ms] Win 3 hangs in Standard mode

rbrown@tron.UUCP (Russ S. Brown) (11/13/90)

Hi,
I have a Headstart III AT machine. I bought Win 3 and like it tremendously.
I also bought a Plus HardCard II 80. After installing the Hard Card,
Windows won't work in the Standard mode. I must fall back to Real mode.
My BIOS is Award Rev. 3.03. I had Vendex (now Phillips) send me a "new"
BIOS. The rev went from Headstart 1.1 to 1.4, but Award from 3.03 to 3.03.
I have a friend who updated his Award BIOS and he apparently got rev 3.11.
My machine hangs up totally in Standard mode. Another symptom was
creation of 0 length files on floppies. Does anybody know if the
Award rev is really 3.11 and how I might get in touch with Award.
I would like to convince Phillips to catch up to the correct level
if possible. Vendex monkeyed up the BIOS just like HP did so that
software that they supply with the machine only works on their
machines. This is why I would like to get Phillips to give me
one. Please reply by mail.

I too am having problems with a Plus Hardcard II 80 in an IBM PS2 30-286.
In standard mode I get "cannot read from drive x". In real mode all
works ok. I can use any help I can get.
