[comp.windows.ms] 256 color BMPs uploaded to cica

Hello, world.

After months of gettings stuff from the Win3 archive at
cica.cica.indiana.edu, I thought that it was high time to give
something back. The following are all 256 color bitmaps that I've
created using GIF2BMP. All are 640x480x256, except for twodice4.zip,
which contains a 900x600x256 color bitmap. They come out fine on my
ATI card using the new drivers, so I hope that the effect is equally
pleasing elseware.

-rw-r--r-- 1 9000 20 217457 Nov 17 11:28 cougar.zip
-rw-r--r-- 1 9000 20 63610 Nov 17 11:28 saturn.zip
-rw-r--r-- 1 9000 20 361464 Nov 17 11:30 twodice4.zip

A word of caution ... at least on the ATI card, when I call up some of
these, the color appears off when they are installed as the Desktop
wallpaper. If you open up the BMP in Paintbrush after installing it
as wallpaper, the color maps are corrected. I suspect that the
Desktop program is selecting the wrong 256 color pallete to work with,
which Paintbrush corrects by selecting the correct one. Does this
sound right? Any other ideas?

After installing any of these as wallpaper, I had to exit Windows and
restart it before they looked right.
