I have trie repeatedly to configure an Epson Equity III (a 26 clone) with 640K on the motherboard and an Everex RAM-3000 card with 1 Meg of chips to work with Windows 3 in standard mode. When I try to start Windows, it complains about not having enough extended memory for standard mode. Note that it must detect that there is some extended memory, or it would have just started up in real mode. The HIMEM.SYS and SMARTDRV drivers have no problems loading, and finding the memory. I've run a few memory tests (not to mention that the BIOS find the memory fine on boot). I've called Everex and Microsoft, and everyone points fingers at the other guy. Microsoft assures me that only having 640K on the mother board, with extended memory starting at 1 Meg, is fine. Does anyone have any clues about what the problem might be? For now, I've resorted to running with expanded memory, using an EMS driver, which is less than ideal.
