Are there any LOADHI-like utilities that will simply work with the Windows-supplied memory managers (e.g. himem.sys)? I would like to be able to load network software drivers above the 640K mark.

IFF you have a 386 or 386SX and depending on what video etc is using memory space between 640K & 1Mbyte, you CAN use QEMM 5.1 to load some network drivers etc into hi memory. I do this & it works well. BUT 1. You must NOT use himem.sys. Win 3 will work in 386 enhanced mode with QEMM in place of himem.sys 2. Often only some of the network drivers can be loaded hi & the others must be loaded low. For example, with PC-NFS I can only load pcnfs.sys hi and the other bits & pieces must be loaded low. Fortunately in this case it is pcnfs.sys which uses the majority of the space and the rest only about 10Kbytes. In my system I end up (about) 574 K usable memory space when everything is up & going. Beames & Whiteside NFS gives similar results. What exactly will work in any given system is a very complicated business but experimenting with QEMM looks like the best place to start.
