The above was my previous posting, earlier today. I now have some
added information. I changed the 123.pif file to show "XMS required"
from 0 to 1024 and the "XMS limit" from 0 to -1. After doing this, I
got all the way into 123 and automatically loaded WYSIWYG, but then
got three lines of messages, parts of which read "invalid opcode ......"
the dots being some number and "general failure". These messages appear
and disappear so quickly that I can't read them all.

After this, I exited Windows and changed 123 to not automatically load
WYSIWYG upon entry. I went back into Windows, and 123 loaded fine. I
then manually loaded WYSIWYG and it ran fine, until I went to exit
123, then I got the "invalid opcode" and etc messages.

Any help?????

I ran into the opposite situation ... worked fine under Win3, but failed
miserably under DOS ... some of the symptoms were very similar.

My suspicion, based on a (finally) successful 123v3.1/win3 installation on a
secretaries machine, is that your machine is having trouble with the DOS16M
memory manager. In our case, we had to (in the autoexec.bat) use the
command "set dos16m=9" *AND* reduce from turbo (10MHz) to snail (6MHz) mode.

That combination allowed it to function correctly in both cases.

Note: The dos16m=9 was arrived at through trial & error ... on a 10MHz 286, 9
or 10 are PROBABLY the right values ... if you just got the package, you can
use the 6mo FREE lotus prompt hotline ... they may have already discovered the
right combo for your machine.
