WordPerfect 5.1 does not convert from/to microsoft word for windows. Microsoft Word for Windows only converts to WP 5.0 and 5.1, the newer version, does lots and lots of things that 5.0 didn't. Is there an up-to-date converter for these two guys? ----- Gary S. Wachs (412) 363-HAHA ! University Of Pittsburgh, PA ! >1) Microsoft Word for Windows 1.1 does convert to and from 5.0 and 5.1 for me. >2) The file format for 5.0 and 5.1 are supposed to be identical. Item 2 is DEFINATELY WRONG. 5.1 has a number of items that simply will not be available when saved into a WP5.0 file. Tables is one thing that does not make the grade... Equations sort of make it in that they get converted to a graphic box of some form. SPecial characters have some problems too but I can't tell you which ones. Text only files may work properly, but anything exotic is going to give you problems.

I have tried to convert a Word Perfect 5.0 document into WfW with mixed results. The document had lots of tables with fancy formatting using tabs - these did not turn out well in WfW. Tabs elsewhere in the document were also poorly done. In the end, I found that it was easiest to strip all formatting from the converted document. This is easily done in WfW by saving the document as a text-only file, then reloading it. Formatting to taste can then be done. -- Bruce Dunn Vancouver, Canada a752@mindlink.UUCP

Has anybody had luck converting from W4W to WP 5.0? I need to share documents with a WP person, and the tables will just not transfer over. For example, A w4w table like this...\ Item 1 Item 2 Item 3 111111 222222 333333 111111 222222 333333 converts into this.. Item 1 111111 111111 111111 Item 2 222222 222222 222222 Item 3 (etc..) Any hints? Thanks in advance.. Paul Zonfrillo
