The File/Printer Setup section in Microsoft Project will not display all active printer ports (e.g. LPT1, LPT2, LPT3) if those ports are all assigned to the same print driver. Although this is not the case with other MS windows products such as Excel and W4W, Microsoft Product Support (for MS Project) stated that this is just the way MS Project works and is not a bug (thus relegating the incident to a mere enhancement request). Unfortunately this does not permit one to easily change printer ports (usually different locations). After getting off the phone with MS Prod Support I noticed that in the [PrinterPorts] and [devices] sections of the win.ini file, the entries for Postscript Printer= had multiple ports per line. On a hunch, I replicated each entry as a separate line (e.g. Postscript Printer 1=, Postscript Printer 2=, etc.) in both sections. When I restarted MS Project, it then listed each printer. Unfortunately I don't know if I should feel comfortable with this work around, and was wondering if I have violated any integrety issues. I would welcome any comments/warnings. In any event. It does appear that this is really a BUG with MS Project (not an enhancement as MS suggested). It seems as though MS Project must only look at the first entry in a multiple entry line in these win.ini sections. Hopefully this will be fixed in future releases of the product. -- Mike Young -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Racal-Milgo Phone: (305) 846-6956 1601 N.
