I should preface this by explaining that my lack of understanding of ms-dos and windows is extensive... I have poked through this newsgroup and I don't seem to see any relevant articles. Please e-mail responses as I don't read the newsgroup, I gather together and post any interesting replies. Thanks for any help in advance. I am trying to upgrade a Zenith 286 pc to run Windows 3.0. I have installed the Zenith memory boards, which bring the base memory up to 640K and the extended memory to 2.5 Meg (I am pretty sure it is extended, not expanded, memory). The memory tests out fine from the monitor program in the pc. The machine runs fine without Windows, I have not yet installed any other programs which might use the extended memory. I then install himem.sys (I have tried various parameters) and it seems happy. When I start up Windows, it sees all of the memory (it lists over 2.7Meg's free in the menu). The problem is Windows crashes all the time with various errors, sometimes it says it ran out of memory, sometimes it just reports fatal errors, etc. I generally need to reboot to get the system back in order. There is nothing tricky installed in this system, just ms-dos. I am not sure where to even start looking for problems, and would appreciate any and all help. Thanks again. -- David Bradford Internet: bradford@bu-ast.bu.edu Systems Manager BITnet: bradford@buasta Astronomy Department SPAN: buasta::bradford Boston University Phone: (617)353-4884
