[net.auto] sorry I haven't replied-gas guage problem

kitten@pertec.UUCP (karen hettinger) (01/01/85)

I have gotten several replies to my sudden poor mileage quiery, but every time
I've answered them, my mail has gotten sent back. And, of course, I'm still
quite behind in my reading...I haven't gotten on at 1200 baud very much these
days.

Thanks for the suggestions. Most of you seem convinced it's a leak, if not
in the tank, then in the lines. Believe me, when you're 300 miles from home
on Christmas day and nothing but the pumps is open, you get down on your
knees and check as well as you can! I looked under the car when running,
after sitting a few, as well as under the hood, etc.

I fill the car every week to week and a half, and this is the only the second
time in 4.5 years, so a leak is unlikely. The gas *was* gone, so it's not
electrical. It *did* go away after filling. Pressure? This was suggested
by one of the respondents...refering to a relief valve at the carb. I had
been thinking about the vapor recovery canister at the tank, but I wanted
to wait and see what the replies were. I know very little about this system,
anybody out there able to clue me in?

Thanks, again, folks.
