The Toyota Corolla typically uses the 1600cc engine designated '2TC'. If your car originally had a 2TC which was replaced by a later 2TC, you'd be hard pressed to see the difference. Later Corollas used the 3TC engine (1800cc). The visual difference between the two is very slight. You can, in fact, install a 3TC crankshaft in a 2TC engine to get the 200cc extra (you must also use 3TC pistons). In answer to the question about the effective model year of the car, it is still a '79 in the eyes of the law. Most states (I don't know about yours) title and register automobiles using the VIN (Vehicle Identificaton Number) which is attached to the body by the manufacturer. Engine serial numbers are mostly ignored. The resale market price for your car will be set by either the infamous 'Blue Book' or the law of supply and demand. A third method to fix the selling price of a car is the well-used 'find a sucker' method. According to P.T. Barnum, there is one born every minute. Some of them grow up and buy cars. T.A.
