I've been reading in several places that data corruption can occur on a
system running Windows 3.0 if you have the following:
-- a harddrive with more than 1024 cylinders
-- your harddrive is partitioned with non-FDISK software such as
SpeedStor or Disk Manager
-- You are running SmartDrive
-- You are running DOS versions greater than v3.30
I have all of the above. I have an Imprimis 330mb, which has 1224 cyls.
(which is directly supported by my BIOS), my drive is partitioned into a
62mb & a 267mb partition -- using SpeedStor v6.0.3, using MS-DOS v4.01,
and running SmartDrive 3.03 as a cache. (And 4DOS v3.02a as a
command.com replacement, although that has never been mentioned as a
factor).
Is there a known Caching program that WILL work with the above setup. I
just recently setup Windows 3.0 with ATM, and Ventura for Windows, and
am drooling with expectation over WordPerfect for Windows, and plan to
try to do some development with TurboC++ for Windows when that is
released... So I'll probably be running Win3 a little more
frequently....
