[comp.windows.ms] 2 problems

Hi All,

I have a couple of problems that I hope someone can suggest fixes to. My
system set up is:

     Intel 80386-25 based AT clone
     Orchid ProDesigner II
     Sony 1320 monitor (640x480)
     1.2M floppy/40M hard disk
Locus PC Interface (3Com 3C503 network)
     Windows 3.0/DOS 3.3

The first problem is when attempting to format a floppy disk from the File
Manager. After selecting all of the formatting options, I get the
"Formatting Diskette" box showing the progress of the format. The disk
will get compeletely formatted, and then the system will get stuck with the
message "Creating root directory" in the message box. If I am formatting a
high density disk, I can click on the cancel button at this point and
continue with no apparent side effects. If I have tried formating a double
density disk, however, Windows will suddenly abort, leaving me staring at
the C:\> prompt. Note that in both cases, the floppy disk is formatted.
Any thoughts??

The second problem is with the display. First I open a full screen DOS
application (or DOS command session). I then switch back to Windows using
Alt-Tab. I then return to the DOS session and sometimes there are no
characters echo'ed to the screen. I can see the cursor moving across the
line as I type, but no characters show up (also no line feeds occur). The
system does understand commands that I enter, so I typically just exit the
DOS session and restart it. This does not happen consistantly, so I have
not been able to determine any specific conditions to make it happen. By
the way, I am using the 640x480, 256 color Windows driver that came with
the video board.

Any comments on these problems would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail
responses to avoid clogging the news group. I can post a summary of
responses if needed.

Thanks,
Tom
