Hi - I read a message in which someone had a problem similar to this long ago but the message has long since been deleted... The AT has 2M extended memory installed & himem.sys (2.60) installed but whenever I try to run in standard mode, the computer freezes at the title screen. It works in real mode but I want the added capability. A call to Microsoft said the Award BIOS was incompatable (it was v2.03) I bought v3.12 & installed. But Windows still freezes. Microsoft is of no help. I wonder whether it is the mother board or archiac keyboard BIOS (which I didn't replace). The mother board is a Sun Electronics Corp. SUNTAC ST612-A. I have no idea what type of keyboard BIOS I have. The chip has the markings: +----------------------------------+ | . P8042AH 2137 | | | L8120596 | | (m)(c)INTEL '81 | +----------------------------------+ Could anyone help me get around this? Is it the keyboard BIOS? (Microsoft says this is rare.) Or is there some other problem? I've worked quite a while on this but without success. I've tried all the switch settings on HIMEM, with my computer at 0/1 wait states, 8/12 Mhz operation. My config.sys was pared down to just the himem.sys statement & my autoexec to the path including windows. Is anyone using Windows in standard mode on a SUNTAC motherboard? Please e-mail me. If there is enough interest, I'll post a summary. Microsoft tells me that the AMI BIOS V1.54 is too old, and I have ordered a BIOS upgrade from my manufacturer. I sure wish that Microsoft would put a list of incompatible BIOS releases in the documentation so we wouldn't waste time trying to make them work. The virtues of the Mac! -- Clayton E.
