I am looking for a windows 3.0 software that will run x windows on a sun sparc network. Does any body know of a package I could FTP? Or a publisher that can give a University Faculty a good discount? Thanks -Mike Burdett

The only X Windows servers for MS Windows 3.0 that we have been able to find are XVision and X11/AT. XVision can be run in two modes. Either all X windows are contained in a single MS window or each X window is also its own MS window. In the first case a normal X window manager is used and in the second MS windows is used as the window manager. Using MS windows as the window manager has the advantage of performing much of the window management locally thus reducing network traffic and it gives the MS windows look and feel to the X windows resulting in more comfort for the end-user. In addition, XVision emulates a 3 button mouse with a 2 button mouse. X11/AT can only be run with all X windows contained in a single MS window. It does not emulate a 3 button mouse so if your users already have 2 button mice, they would have to replace them or lose an middle button functions. Both products supply only the X server. A third party TCP/IP protocol stack must also be installed. We use FTP Software's PC/TCP which can be purchased as only the kernel or with a full set of TCP/IP applications. XVision comes from a company in England but is distributed in the US by either UniPress Software Graphic Software Systems 2025 Lincoln Highway or PO Box 4900 Edison, NJ 08817 Beaverton, OR 97005-4900 800-222-0550 503-641-2200 We've gotten ours from UniPress Software. Their technical staff is very helpful and they provide their own support for the product so you don't have to call England to get your questions answered. They also provide site licenses and handle the third party TCP/IP products. X11/AT is from Integrated Inference Machines 1468 East Katella Ave. Anaheim, CA 92805 714-978-6201 They've been very helpful as well and I'm sure they have quantity discounts. If anyone else knows of other MS Windows based X servers, I'd be interested in hearing about them. John G.
