[comp.windows.ms] Beta Trident drivers

mikep@cs.umr.edu (Mike Prather) (02/21/91)

The initial problem with the Beta trident drivers was that they were
compressed WITHIN the zip file, and needed to be expanded using the
Windows EXPAND.EXE utility. I'm so glad that was clearly explained
in the files that came with the ZIP. >:-(

Now then, after passing that hurdle, I'm still not home. I don't have
an 8900 board. I have an older Trident type board. So, my question:

Is the new beta driver for 1024x768x16 NON-8900 standard Trident board
faster than the old one? Does it work at all?

I did run the setup program. I did erase the old
drivers before running the setup program. But the driver for 1024x768x16
non-8900 graphics doesn't seem to be working with my Trident-type (Zymos)
board.

Has anyone gotten the NON-8900 1024x768x16 Trident 2.0Beta driver to work?

Mike

I am using the Trident 2.0 Beta drivers as you read this. I too deleted
all the associated files and tried the 1024x768 drivers. They work like
a charm albiet a slightly tarnished one. They tend to leave vertical
lines here and there, now and then, but other than that, they are slightly
faster and they work better with MDI applications. There were DEFINITELY
problems with the old ones now and then with the system menus of MDI
children windows. Anyway, I would just delete ALL trident drivers again
and reinstall (setup). I deleted tvga.drv, vddtvga.386 and w1024.drv. Ran
setup and that was it. Except if you use the 'large' fonts, you'll probably
be asked for the fonts disk to load all the fixed (res 8514/a) fonts.
