I just switched to ATM after using some scalable fonts that HP sent me after I purchased my Deskjet 500; I believe the HP fonts are from AGFA. After setting everything up, I ran off a document in W4W set in 11 point Times using ATM that I had previously run off using the HP fonts set in their 11 point CG Times. Though I now have real italics (instead of just oblique) and better screen fonts, the general quality of the ATM output is noticeably inferior to the output from the HP fonts--the dots in a German umlaut for example, are dark and round, while in the ATM output they are lighter, smaller, and roughly diamond shaped. And all the characters generally are slightly less sharp. I think I remember seeing something about problems with the W4W Deskjet driver (I'm using W4W 1.0); could that account for this, is there some other explanation, or (what seems less likely to me) are the HP fonts simply better? Second question: I need a type 1 font that includes a simple square box, such as is standardly used for the necessity operator in modal logics. It is not in the ATM symbol font. Does anyone know if any of the fonts on CICA include such a beast? Thanks. Chris Menzel
