[comp.windows.ms] Trident drivers -SOLVED problems, troubleshooting

KEM-PMP@finou.oulu.fi (Petri Pihko) (02/22/91)

Attention to all Tridenters: If you are still using the old drivers that
may have been included with your hardware, I'd suggest that you switch to
their new v2.0b drivers, available from many ftp sites (for example, cica.cica.
indiana.edu) as tvga2b.zip. This set includes new drivers for both Trident
8800 and 8900.

I had had a problem with Microsoft Excel (_both versions 2.1c and 3.0) when
running Windows3 with the old t480.drv 256-colour driver. These bugs were
nicely fixed with the new drivers. Some older versions of Trident drivers
contained a faulty vddtvga.386 file. This prevented running win3 in 386Enh
mode. The new drivers will correct that, too.

Notes on installing the drivers: READ the readme.txt and follow the
instructions in it. I was surprised to notice that when changing from 16-
to 256-colour VGA, all your previous settings will remain intact. Trident
has made things easy - delete all previous Trident files, run setup
from DOS, select mode and...after a few seconds you are able to utilise the
power of 256-colour graphics (or 800*600 resolution or whatever you select).
