I got a package in the mail today from Microsoft (thanks). I don't remember who it was from (the secretary threw away the envelope) but I did not order it. I guess it came in response to a posting about EPS problems I have been having in winword, unless everyone else got the same thing. The diskette in the package has two files "epsimp.flt" and "readme.eps". The readme file said to kill InsertPicture and ...(the other one) that was installed when I selected EPSsupport in example.doc. I had to delete these from normal.dot. Now what? When I insert an EPS file, I get a "can't display file error message"? What do I have to change? /*----------- Thanks in advance... --------------------------------------+ | Peter C. You are probably correct in assuming that it was in response to a posting. >The diskette in the package has two files "epsimp.flt" and "readme.eps". >The readme file said to kill InsertPicture and ...(the other one) that >was installed when I selected EPSsupport in example.doc. Well, not all .EPS files contain a TIFF file header. WinWord and most applications require this header in order to display the file as the program itself does not interpret postscript. BTW, I would like a copy as well if Microsoft is still listening. Jeff Altman 15 Yarmouth Lane Nesconset, NY 11767 -- - Jeff (jaltman@ccmail.sunysb.edu)

Same here! I reported problems with eps file importing several times to Microsoft, and so far I have heard nothing. If there is a newer version I would like to have it. Mark Curtis

An EPS file with a TIFF header ... arghhh ... what other "monstrosity" will they think of next? For my edification, what applications generate such a beast? I went through the process of scanning (someone elses PC & scanner), translating to MacPaint (GCP under windows), to get it onto a Mac (ftp to a unix host, Kermit to a mac) so that it could be converted to EPS, (we only have illustrator on the graphics dept Mac) get it back onto my PC, try & import into w4w, get some "bogus" (from an end user standpoint) error message, and now I hear that there is no way to get it to work anyway because of some TIFF header !?!?!?!?! One may ask why not use the scanner's TIFF file directly ... at this point I would ask the same question, but I'm printing on a PS printer, so I would rather have a small inclusion, not a large bitmap ... besides, the bitmap would require major cleaning for it to be usable ... it's amazing what autotracing can do ! >BTW, I would like a copy as well if Microsoft is still listening. Headers allow the EPS file to be displayed on the screen. The header info is ignored by the PS printer. -- - Jeff (jaltman@ccmail.sunysb.edu)
