After a few delays and last-minute bugs, Sounder 2.0 is finally finished. The main new feature is 386 Enhanced mode operation, which, while not perfect, seems to do well enough. There is also a control panel-type program to adjust volume globally and alter the parameters that are needed for Sounder to work under 386 Enhanced mode. Sounder may be the "poor man's" sound program--it requires NO SPECIAL HARDWARE and costs only $2. As for sounds, it plays almost all Mac-compatible 8-bit 11 or 22 KHz sounds. The quality depends on your speaker, but in general is quite good. Oh, and does anyone know about the Disney (as in Walt) Sound Source. It can be had for about $21, and connects to a computer via a pass-through parallel connector. How easy is it to program for? If it's not bad, expect a version of Sounder that supports it. BTW, for you programmers out there, it's relatively painless to access the main sound playing routines in Sounder from your apps, and I've seen a few programs (games, a sound editor) that use this. Of course, the grand prize still goes to whomever can tell me how to "trap" calls to MessageBeep() to change that annoying beep... Aaron Wallace
