I would like to know what is the "Postscript Driver" on Cica is? Should I get it and dump the Window 3.0 version? Is it faster? Does it solve the Control-D problem? -- Mike my@berlioz.nsc.com

Questions, questions! ;) Things I know for sure: This is *not* the PSCRIPT.DRV that is being distributed with Aldus PC PageMaker Version 4. The file PSCRIPT.DRV that is being distributed with PageMaker 4 is dated 11-21-90 and has a size of 104,347 bytes. The file in the uploads directory is dated 11-21-90 and is 275,375 bytes. However, they both appear to be PostScript drivers with the same version number (3.4a). Here's excerpts from the DRIVERS.TXT file that came with the Aldus drivers: This file explains the features and installation instructions for the updated printer drivers and screen fonts provided on this disk. The drivers provided here are: The PostScript driver (version 3.4A) provides a wider range of printer support, especially for Linotronic Imagesetters. [stuff deleted] =============================================== ABOUT THE NEW POSTSCRIPT DRIVER (PSCRIPT.DRV, v. 3.4a) =============================================== High resolution imagesetters, such as a Linotronic, usually have just four ROM-resident printer fonts. Any additional fonts must be downloaded to the imagesetter. To facilitate use downloadable printer fonts with PageMaker 4.0, we have included the 3.4a version Windows PostScript driver, which has the 22 PostScript printer font metric (.PFM) file information and additional "extra" and transverse page sizes now built-in for the imagesetters currently supported. The printer font metric information in this driver contains character spacing and kerning specification PageMaker and other Microsoft Windows applications need to space characters proportionally on the screen and in print. PFM files are not downloadable printer fonts. If you are not sending your publication to a service bureau for imagesetter output, you'll need the corresponding printer fonts for your printer in order for those fonts to appear in your printed output. Before you prepare your PageMaker files for output by a service bureau, you should verify which format they prefer to receive your publication files in, and the printer fonts they have available. Some service bureaus may request printed-to-disk files in PostScript format which they can simply download to the imagesetter. In any case, you'll need to advise your service bureau of the fonts that were used in your publication. [stuff deleted] ================================= FONT METRICS AND PSCRIPT.DRV, v. 3.4a ================================= The font metric information now built-in to the 3.4a PostScript driver is used in imagesetter-targeted publications. When your system is updated with the 3.4a driver, your type specs will be updated with the following typefaces when your publication is targeted to an imagesetter: -Helvetica Narrow -New Century Schoolbook -Palatino -ITC Avant Garde -ITC Bookman -ITC Zapf Chancery -ITC Zapf Dingbats [stuff deleted] >Is it faster?
