[comp.windows.ms] Creating .FON files with SDK 3.0

Hi Netlanders!!
I would like to know if anybody out there has managed to create a .FON
file that works with Windows 3.0. I have extensively followed the
instructions in Chapter 18 of the Reference Guide included with the SDK ,
but unfortunately I had no success. It appears that the .FON file has a
header that is larger by 3072 bytes when compared to the standard .FON
files supplied with Windows 3.0.
To create the .FON file, I am using MASM 5.1 and the segmented
executable linker supplied with this package (link4). I have also heard that
other people using the linker that comes with MSC 6.0 have also
encountered problems. During linking, the linker aborts with a "no
segments defined" error.
Could somebody out there be kind enough to tell what am I doing wrong?
Please note that both MASM and the linker are run in their default modes
(i.e. no LINK and MASM environment variables are defined). I could force
MASM to generate a file with a smaller header, by using the /n command
line switch, but this has not proved to provide a full remedy to my problem.
Please email me if you have any suggestions. Thank you very much in
advance.
