I think I might begin to use Windows 3.0 if I can configure it in a way as to provide me a relatively fast easy to use setup for the following programs: Multi-Edit editor (can use EMS memory) MASM (Microsoft Assembler and Linker) Telix (terminal comm program) CodeView WordPerfect 5.1 Quattro Pro (maybe, but if not, maybe lotus, nothing else). Norton Utils Archive programs (zip, arc, lharc, zoo, etc) I am usually in my editor, but am frequently compiling also (I might also be using Quick C later on). I use Codeview frequently too. Telix is used everyday, and I'd like it to basically always be in a window (I know it will run in a window in Win 2.x) for my use. WordPerfect might be used once a week, for brief work, so if I'm using it I won't need to swap back and forth between it and say Codeview. Quattro Pro I probably use about once a week also. Norton whenever I need to, and archive programs a couple times a week. So, ideally, I'd like to have my editor, Telix, and MASM in windows all the time, and Codeview as an icon maybe. WP, QP, etc can be called via menu or something when I need them. I have a 286-16 with 1MB and a 512K EMS board, 40MB and 30MB hard drives, 1.44 and 360K floppy's, and Hercules video setup. Is all of this possible to run well on my machine. How much better would it run with another MB of extended memory? Also, I will want to use the PC Kwik hard disk cache. What is the best way to set up my memory, PIF's, etc? Any advice, experience would be great. I realize one person probably doesn't do exactly this, so experience with any or all applications I've mentioned under windows would be great!!! -- Chris Bailey :: baileyc@tramp.Colorado.EDU :: University of Colorado Boulder Ride fast! take chances! but tread lightly!
