Unfortunately, my experiences with PC/GEOS have not been as impressive as some of the other experiences described. While I can't firmly trace it, I believe PC/GEOS trashed one hard disk and was in the process of trashing another before I deleted it. The process: I used PC/GEOS for about a month with no problems on a PS/2 Model 70-A21, 120MB hard drive, DOS 4.00. Then, all of a sudden, files created by PC/GEOS were mysterious trashed--the problem started with GEOWRITE files, but then quickly spread to PC/GEOS application files. Various disk-doctor utilities revealed a significant number of bad cross-linked files--all pointing to the PC/GEOS subdirectory. Soon afterwards I couldn't launch PC/GEOS, and DOS refused to recognize the subdirectory past the file names, giving me general errors. This wouldn't have bothered me so much if the same exact problem popped up on my work machine--a simple clone with a 130MB hard disk and DOS 4.01, AND THE ONLY THING LOADED ON THIS NEW MACHINE WAS PC/GEOS. If PC/GEOS has a problem with DOS 4.0X, that's cool--but I found no indication of this from the company or the documentation. In addition, other users in the Twin Cities area are reporting the same problems running DOS 3.X and on both 286es and 386es. Decide for yourselves. --KR UUCP: {amdahl!bungia, crash}!orbit!pnet51!reichard ARPA: crash!orbit!pnet51!reichard@nosc.mil INET: reichard@pnet51.orb.mn.org
