[comp.windows.ms] Microsoft's OLE spec.

kilmer@hq.af.mil (02/21/91)

I am trying to find ay info I can on the Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)
spec from Microsoft. If anyone has any phone numbers/pricing info I would
appreciate it. I'm assuming that it would come with some Dynamic Link Libs
or the sort to integrate into your apps. Has anyone used the feature in
Excel 3.0? I would appreciate any replies. I am also interested in getting
it to work under OS/2...anyone heard anything???

Thanks,

Richard Kilmer

I am unsure when the OLE DLL's will be widely-distributed to
developers, apparently Microsoft is working out some minor
bugs in them until they distribute them sometime at the
end of this Quarter (so it should be soon).

I was at the Dec.11 developers conference in Seattle, and I
received the DLL's and preliminary spec. then.

The "outside" (or interface) specification, by the way, will
not be changing - supposedly it is set. As for the OS/2
OLE DLL's, they will be available in several months. MacApp
versions are expected somewhere around the end of the year.

	Good Luck!

	Regards |(:>

I would also be interested in getting a copy (either email or ftp) of the
OLE toolkit. If anyone can provide it please let me know. Thanks, Marc

Neither phone numbers nor pricing info are necessary. Both Compu$erve (in
the MSOPSYS area) and Microsoft Offline have the documentation (in both
Word and plain text formats) and sample apps plus DLLs. It should be enough
to get you started provided you can get it to work. We were able to get
the first posted version to run but the second version posted keeps telling
us that it "Failed to register server" etc. Sigh.

You can get it through Compuserve (go msopsys at the ! prompt). The only
cost is the standard connect charges. They have the documents (in text
and Word format), along with the programming libs and example source.

If you don't have Compuserve, you might find it on one of the Microsoft
MSJ BBS's. They place code on GEnie, Channel1 and RamNet.
