[comp.windows.ms] Everex/Novell/Windows 3.0 problem

todd@pinhead.pegasus.com (Todd Ogasawara) (03/14/91)

I am having problems getting Windows 3.0 to run in enhanced mode on
a new Everex Step 386/33 (33MHz 80386 with 128K cache) with 8M of RAM.

Here's the situation.. Windows 3.0 ran in 386Enh mode when the system was
first brought up in standalone mode. This was true for the stock version of
Windows as well as after I installed the ViewPoint VRAM SuperVGA drivers to
get it to run in 800x600x256 mode. After this configuration checked out, I
then proceeded to install the IBM Token Ring drivers, the Novell Advanced
Netware 286 drivers, and QEMM 386 5.11.

I then reconfigured Windows to work on the network. When I try to run
Windows in 386Enh mode the screen goes black and I can hear the multisync
monitor trying to switch to different display frequencies. The system at
this point is locked tight. CTRL-ALT-DEL no longer works. I have to hit the
reset switch to get out of it.

The system works fine, however, in Real mode or Standard mode.

Has anyone figured out a way to get this configuration to work in 386Enh
mode. I called the local Everex distributer and they didn't know a fix for
this problem either...
