[comp.windows.ms] ATM 1.1 and new PS driver

rob@jarthur.claremont.edu (Rob McKaughan) (03/18/91)

I finally cracked open my PageMaker 4.0 box and took a look at what came
with it.

First off, it came with the new 1.1 version of ATM. I've read through the
readme's and have found no information on what the changes are other than
some vague references to compatibility.

Also, in contrast to the retail version of ATM, the PageMaker version comes
with Gill Sans and Times New RomanPS in place of Helvetica and Times.

The newest (that I've found) Adobe PostScript driver for windows was
included. This is version 3.4a (I got 3.4 from the windows 3.0a upgrade).

Acording to it's docs, the 3.4a has some bug fixes and now comes with font
metric files (PFM's) for AvantGarde, Bookman, New Century Schoolbook,
Palatino, Helvetica-Narrow, Zapf Chancery, and Zapf Dingbats BUILT INTO THE
DRIVER. Thus, you don't need them cluttering up your softfonts section.
This supposedly makes sending PS files to a print shop more convienient.

Email me if you want more specifics.

I've got it all installed. The only thing I noticed was that my battle with
installing all the cica fonts with everything I've already got suddenly came
to an easy end: everything worked.

I have not yet put it all through the acid test of installing it for the
Graphic Design department, nor have I sent anything off to the linotronic
for printing.

Finally, PageMaker 4.0 is a blast - a great upgrade from an already good
product.
