This is my fisrt post to this net and I would like to say a very heartfelt thank you to mjw@okcusr.uucp and Mike Lipsie Together they helped me solve my com port problems. I just started reading the net last week when I came across a response by mjw to someone else who had com port problems. In the response mjw had quoted a solution which involvedetting the default port addresses. Well that did the trick for my problem. So thank you very much. Synopsis of Problem: I had installed a modem into COM4. I was able to use Procomm but not Terminal. Terminal kept telling me my COM4 was being used by a DOS application and would not let me reassign the port since my other com ports were also being used. Solution: In system.ini in the [386Enh] add the following lines. COM3base=03e8h COM4base=02e8h And bingo things worked fine with terminal and my modem. System: ISA 386-25Mhz clone w/ 2mb ram and 387-20 coprocessor ATI VGA Wonder with 512k w/ NEC 3D 2 serial, 1 parallel, 1 game port Cardinal 2450 2400 baud modem 60 Mb seagate hard drive. ******************************************************************************* Mohammad Qureshi qureshi@sequent.berkeley.edu or qureshi@tornado.berkeley.edu Institute of Transportation studies
