[comp.windows.ms] AMI BIOS, Trident 8900, and Problems in ENH and STD mode

mar@mips.com (Derrick Mar) (03/19/91)

Ever since I got a new 386 25MHZ with AMI BIOS, Trident 8900 VGA, and
LogicTech Mouse, I have been seeing a number of "Unrecoverable Application
Error" even from running applications that are meant to run with WIN3.0.
(a couple times from the ProgramManager that comes with WIN3.0 !!!)

A typical repeat-by test is to double click either Word for Windows (v. 1.0)
or Excel (2.1d), and immediately move the mouse cursor quickly around the
screen for a few seconds. A window will later open up and soon after
followed by the "Unrecoverable Application Error" message. This happens almost
every time when I run in enhanced mode. I have tried to put a combination
of 'virtualirq=off' and 'emmexclude=0xa000-0xefff' under [ENH] in sys.ini, but that
did not solve the problem. Since I don't run that many non-window applications,
I have switched to run Windows in standard mode. The "Unrecoverable Application
Error" still happens sometime in the middle of heavy editing in Word!

Any clue? Thanks in advance.
