[comp.windows.ms] Windows futures - network related

I have questions about the latest Microsoft/Bill Gates crusade -
information at your fingertips - in terms of how that strategy will drive
Windows development in the network arena. It seems to me that the grand goal
( stated very simply ) is to let Joe User sitting in front of his '386 have
access to data that resides anywhere on the network - i.e. view it, edit it,
include it in compound documents, etc. Obviously, Windows is a key to that
goal. The question is, what facilities will be added to Windows to make that a
reality. I don't care about changes to DOS such as file system enhancements
to allow tracking who created what even if file names/locations change. I'm
more curious about network related topics. Will DDE/OLE be imbued with some
ability to carry on conversations over a network with any machine ( not just a
file server )? Will "information" have to live on a file server for it to be
"at your fingertips"? What extensions to windows are coming to make
information location transparent to the user?
Is there a good source for this type of information? If this made zero
sense then please ignore me and I'll just go away quietly. On the other hand,
if you have any comments on this topic I would appreciate hearing them.
Thanks!
