[comp.windows.ms] comp.windows.ms.binaries

Would there be any interest in a newsgroup comprised of binary files of
MS-Windows shareware applications? I have been looking through the ftp sites
and was thinking that there might be better access to programs if there was
a newsgroup dedicated to this specificaly. If I need to forward a request to
any place/site/net-address in particular, please let me know.

Not a bad idea, but I feel that the existing group comp.binaries.ibm.pc
is the best place for binaries for MS-Windows, as it already has the
necessary procedures in force to get things out onto the net (although Bill
may not want even more work to do :-). I'm more in favour of a (possibly
moderated) source group for MS-Windows, since now that Borland C++ has been
released there are going to be lots more people programming for Windows, and
more asking the same old questions, like "How do I create a open file dialog
box?". A source group (with a backup of archive sites and so on) would help
alleviate this and propagate Windows programming far and wide. But I'm getting
a little off the subject heading and group topic here :) .

Rhys.

I think there is a demand for such a binary group. Currently where are
windows programs posted?

When the group is set up, I'll definitely contribute some of my programs
...
