[comp.windows.ms] problems formatting floppies with FileMan

colaluca@cs.utexas.edu (Mark Colaluca) (03/23/91)

I have been having a difficult time formatting floppies using File Manager.
It seems that when I try to format a floppy, it goes through the 1%...
100% complete routine, gives the "creating root directory" message, and then
asks me if I want to format another. I then click on the newly formatted
disk's drive, and get a "Cannot read error" or something like that. I have
a few other people who get periodic errors formatting floppies under 3.0 as
well. Anyone with suggestions? This one has really stumped us.

Thanks,

   [etc...]

I have also had a lot of trouble with File Manager formated floppies.
I have a Toshiba 5200/100 with 3.5" floppy. I have gone back to using
DOS only format command for formatting. Seems much more reliable.
