Slow down folks. The anti-scanner laws relate only to their use in automobiles. The biggest problem with scanners in autos is the nerds who listen in for emergencies and such then show up at the scene and get in the way. There have been a few instances where these jokers have impeded rescue efforts just because they were in the way. You can have a scanner at home if you wish, no problem. All of this stuff about the airwaves are free is just not true. CERTAIN airwaves are free, others are restricted, sort of. Well, anyway, their not as free as we suppose they should be. On the other hand, do we want every jacknape in the county showing up at our personal emergency and gapping at our predicament? There has to be some modicum of order so that the folks assigned to do their jobs at an emergency can do so without tripping over the beer cans of the gawkers. T. C. Wheeler
