[comp.windows.ms] randomly display compressed bmp's?

dana@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu (Daniel Schneider) (03/26/91)

I've been using Screenpeace to randomly display .bmp's as wallpaper.
The problem is that I have collected too many of these pretty
pictures that waste disk space. I was wondering if there is a piece
of shareware out there that will randomly extract and display zipped or
otherwise compressed bmp's. I have notied that cthey can be compressed
quite a bit.

I seem to recall seeing this mentioned in this group once before, back
before I had discovered the multitude of bmp's on cica.

Thanks,
Dan

I found a program called zipaper.zip on cica. I beleive it was in
/win3/bmp/util/. It randomly extracts a .bmp from a .zip and names it
walpaper.bmp. It also keeps track of used .bmps so you don't get repetition.

Why not use a utility like WinGif (new version ain't too shabby)
to save the BMP in RLE (run length encoded) format?? Just a teeny
thought here, why not do that in the first place?
