[comp.windows.ms] Setting the D= Switch for EMM386

The README.TXT file that comes with Windows 3.0 has the following suggestion:

	Setting the D= Switch for EMM386
	--------------------------------
	If you install EMM386, before you can start Windows in 386
	enhanced mode, you must include the following setting on your
	EMM386 command line:

	  d=48

However I can find no mention of the D= switch in the Windows User's
Guide. Does anyone know what this switch does? (Other than make it
possible to run Windows in ehanced mode with EMM386 running. Does it
cause EMM386 to hand off memory to Windows like SMARTDrive does?)
