[comp.windows.ms] Had a look at Wordperfect for Windows!

ntaib@silver.ucs.indiana.edu (Nur Iskandar Taib) (03/30/91)

Yup! Yesterday the Orem people came and gave us a peek..

Its still a while before it gets released (June).

Good news: it DOESN"T LOOK LIKE WP for MAC (which sucks..)

Would I choose it over W4W? Well, it has some really nice
features that W4W doesn't have, for instance what they call
the "button bar", essentially a customizable set of buttons
that execute menu options. Easy to set up, real fast to use.
An equation editor (much like the one in 5.1) which unfor-
tunately doesn't have grab-and-move, a grab-and-move kerning
/microjustification utility, standalone thesaurus and spel-
ler (so you can use them while in Corel Draw (or better
still, Pagemaker)). But it doesn't have the powerful outline
organizer that W4W has. So if you're writing a manual, a
law journal, a brochure, a dissertaion, W4W might be better.

It has the same function-key commands as 5.1 (so if you know
5.1 you'll know WP4W). The menu bar is organized just like
the optional mouse menu bar in WP 5.1.

Other features include a table editor (like 5.1), DDE sup-
port for Excel, I believe DDE support for Drawperfect4W
(also in the works), and the ability to grab-move-and-size
graphics on the screen. Text automatically wraps around as
you drag or resize.

Runs great (ie. fast) on a 386SX (the Microsoft person
who demo'd W4W had a 386DX with 8 Megs).

So do we start to refer to 5.1 as "WP4DOS" in June? Ugh!

Arrr, come on give 'em a break. But that was v1.? Have you seen the
latest version? i.e. version 2? ehhh???? It incorporates some things which
Apple have since added to their Human Inteface Guidelines - such as
immediate user feedback on keys (i.e. press the Apple key in a dialog box
and it pops up what letters to use instead of cliking on the button. Also
drop down menus in a dialog box - and more)
							David...

P.S. I am *NOT* a Mac fan.
