OK. Usher 1.3 is out on cica. Look for usher13.zip in the
pub/pc/win3/uploads directory although it will probably get moved
to pub/pc/win3/util soon. For those that are unfamiliar with Usher,
here is a brief description:
Usher is a popup menu that appears when the user clicks on the Windows
desktop. This menu can be loaded with applications as determined by
a user-created usher.ini file. Usher can also be used as a replacement
shell to replace the memory- and resource- hogging Program Manager and
hDC Windows Express. Usher only requires around 9K of memory!
New features added to 1.3:
- When Usher is the shell an icon now appears at the bottom of
the screen. This simple addition fixed many oddities,
including the strange alt-tab problem.
New features added to 1.2:
- Problems with right mouse button clicks have been
fixed. However, you still can't select an item with the
right button -- this is due to Windows, not Usher.
New features added to 1.1:
- Usher now supports separate menus for the left, middle, and right
mouse buttons. Note the middle button only works if you have a
three button mouse.
- You can tell Usher to use "sticky menus". These are menus that remain
standing even after you release the mouse button.
- Several new directives for placing Usher features in your menus:
@LINE@= to add a separating line into your menus.
@DATE@= to add the current date indicator.
@TIME@= to add the current time indicator.
@MEMORY@= to add the current free memory indicator.
@RUN@= to add the Run... dialog entry.
@USHER@= to add the About Usher, Reload Usher, and Close Usher
entries.
@EXIT@= to add the Exit Windows entry.
@DEFAULT@= combines many of the above directives in a standard layout.
@INFO@= to display system info such as type of processor, math
coprocessor, and if Windows is running in protected,
enhanced, or real mode.
Usher 1.0 features:
- Supports up to 10 levels of menu hierarchy.
- Requires on 9K of memory.
- Usher can replace or work with your existing shell.
- Has a Run... dialog box for executing other programs.
- The menu conifiguration file can be reloaded without restarting Usher.
- The current directory can be changed before launching an application.
- An Exit Windows entry exists for quitting Windows.
Thanks for using and supporting Usher! Your comments are welcome!
