[comp.windows.ms] I need help accessing cica, please

pmahler@starnet.uucp (Paul Mahler) (04/03/91)

I'm trying to get to the archives on cica and princeton, but I'm not
having any luck. I tried the following, but it get's bounced back
because our mail server doesn't seem to know about cica, or I have the
address wrong or something:

    mail bitftp@cica.cica.indiana.edu
    ftp
    user anonymous
    cd /pub/pc/win3
    get ls-ltR
    get INDEX
    get index
    quit
         Subject: Returned mail: User unknown
         To: bitftp@cica.cica.indiana.edu
         To: bitftp@cica.edu

I also can't get to princeton, the following doesn't work:

mail bitftp@pucc.princeton.edu
USER anonymous
CD pub/pc/win3
DIR
GET INDEX
GET ls-ltR
QUIT

My request is refused.

Can anyone help me?? Thank you very much, in advance. You may
reply to me at this address, or I can be reached at:

You have to send your mail to bitftp@pucc.bitnet.
Here comes the mail body:
   ftp cica.cica.indiana.edu
   user anonymous
   cd <what you want>
and so on.

Of course, you did not ftp to any IP-address.

One small correction - bitftp IS available to UUCP and Internet users
as bitftp@pucc.princeton.edu. I use it that way all the time, and it's
TERRIFIC, since I don't have Internet access at all.
