Dear Netters, I have the hDC MicroApp manager and FirstApps and have recently ordered FileApps which is soon to be released here. When at the Windows 3 show in Olympia, London this February I stopped off at the hDC stand and, explaining that I was a PhD student, asked how I might be able to order copies of the Equation Editor and Keyboard mapper which were bundled with the educational version on IBMs in the States. I was told quite flatly that hDC had no intention of releasing either of these MicroApps and would not consider selling me them or giving me them either. As this strikes me as complete bloody-mindedness would someone consider mailing me the .ma, .hlp and .prf files for these two microapps? I have a gripe about hDC's microapps... We are running a public use computer lab, and wish to have as much control as possible over the files on the hard drives. One thing we do is we lock (ATTRIB +R) all the *.INI files. microapps have *.PRF files which control various aspects of the microapps. If we try to lock these files, the microapp generates an error box complaining that "Cannot find DESKTOP.PRF" (or whatever for the appropriate microapp. People are all the time changing the screen saver, putting passwords on the screen saver, killing our boot-up message, etc. It's a real pain. Ironically, we can hide the *.PRF files and it works. But that doesn't write protect them. Can anyone help? I have noticed that people from hDC have posted articles before, and if they're listening, I must say that EXPRESS is terriffic for our use in a public lab. If they can help with this microapp problem, I'll be a very happy person.
