I recently down loaded Sounder.exe from cica.cica.indiana.edu. I followed all of the instuctions, including running my PS/2 55SX with 2Meg of memory in standard mode. However no sound came out of my speaker! I didn't get any error messege and the machine 'waited' for a second or two as if was trying to do something. But nothing happened :-(. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Paul __________________________________________________________________ | | |"...and on the eigth day god created the Sauter Mean Diameter." | | - D.W.Senser | |________________________________________________________________|

I am sending this out to see if anyone else is having the same problem I am. I have a PS2/55SX (yes it is a micro channel machine) with 2Meg and just downloded sounder. I am running windows in 386 enhanced mode. After playing a sound, if I then start up a dos program (such as cshow) which uses sounds, and then quit out of it, the speaker lets out a *LOUD* annoying continuous beep. (it sounds rather like a smoke detector). The only way to stop it is to either 1) Quit windows 2) Play a sound I also noticed that after playing a sound, for the rest of the windows session, the speaker will make low blip noices at random intervals. This sounds like my computer is mumbling to me! I hope someone can help me. Paul PS. If anyone knows the authors' e-mail address please let me know, I have had several helpfull correspondances with him and have lost his address, sorry! __________________________________________________________________ | | |"...and on the eigth day god created the Sauter Mean Diameter." | | - D.W.Senser | |________________________________________________________________|

I also have a PS/2 55SX. I have no problems wiht Sounder. You're problem might be that you are trying to play sounds under Windows 3.0 in 386 Enhanced mode. Sounder is not meant to play in 386 Enhanced mode. Sounder can only be played in Standard and Real mode. Joo Chung

And there is a *known* bug where after a sound is played in a DOS box and you return to Windows, you get a beep until another sound is played. I'll post a fixed DSOUND.DLL to cica when I figure out what's not right in it... Aaron Wallace

Sounder v1 will not run under 386enh mode, but Sounder v2 (available at cica) will, and also there ^^^^^^ are a heap of new sound files (last time i looked they were in uploads) which are *GREAT* (many thanx to the author of Sounder).
