[comp.windows.ms] Too Many Icons on my Desktop!

mds@duke.cs.duke.edu (Mark David Shattuck) (04/03/91)

I had an interesting problem this weekend. If I have
more than about 130 icons in opened groups in program manager,
then pm will not redraw itself correctly. I have tried this
with the video drivers supplied with my OPDII and the standard
windows supplied VGA drivers. Does anyone else have this
problem?

	Steps to create problem:

	1) Create 7 groups in PM. I have 4 groups of 25 icons
and 3 groups of about 10 icons.

	2) Open all groups.

	3) Make PM into an icon and then open it.

Now, you should have the title bar of PM and frame, but
nothing else. (Well it's more like it's invisible with the back-
ground showing through.) If you iconify one of the groups then
problem goes away.

	Here's my system:

	DTK 386-25 4Mb 64K cache
	Orchid ProDesigner II
	NEC 3D
	QEMM 5.11 (for EMM)
	DOS 3.3
	WINDOWS 3.0

Now that I'm at home I counted the actual number needed.
With 123 icons on the screen there is a problem with 122 there is
not.

Correct! I get it too. Another problem that I ran into:
you can only put a limited number of icons into a program group.
This I find really frustrating, 'cause sometimes I have a need
to put upto 300+ icons in a group (don't ask) and the only way I
can do it is to create several groups numbered xx1, xx2, etc...
Does anybody have solutions to the above 2 problems?
