Please excuse this blatant ad. However, since there has been a great deal of interest regarding the fmsound package on cica.cica.indiana.edu. Hence the following announcement. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Version 1.0 of the Adlib and SoundBlaster sound driver has been released, and will be on cica.cica.indiana.edu, as well as various other ftp sites and commercial services such as CompuServe, by this weekend. This is a set of utilities to allow you to use your music board to its best within Windows 3.0 or later. Programs included: FM.DRV - a Windows device driver to replace SOUND.DRV PLAYER.EXE - a utility for playing ROL music files INSTEDIT.EXE - an instrument sound editor SNDPANEL.EXE - a control-panel-like configuration box for the driver. Features of the FMSOUND package: - Is a real replacement sound driver that integrates Windows with your music hardware, without even requiring application support. - Extends the Windows API to include full support for FM sound boards. New features of version 1.0 include: - Ability to customize a default instrument with which to play error beeps, or even to use the PC speaker for beeps. - Ability to define a startup sound for playing whenever Windows boots up. - ROL file midification option that allows up to 50% speed increase when loading files. Modified files can still be used in other ROL file players/composers. - Enhanced features and ease of use of Player and InstEdit utilities, and ability to use Player via file-extension/association, such as clicking on a ROL file in File Manager to play a song. - Enhanced compatibility with Windows mode-switches and some software, such as the After Dark screen saver.
