[net.auto] New car shopping--my criteria and wh

I own a 1979 Mazda 626. I realize that the new 626s don't have a lot in
common with mine, but I'm very pleased. It has 73k miles on it and runs
just fine. I've done all my own maintenance, with the exception of the
60,000 tune up. I was in an accident in 1980, where an Oldsmobile
Brontosaurus pulled out from a side street on a rainy night in front of
me. I hit her at about 20 mph, damaging the grille, FR quarterpanel and
hood. No frame or suspension damage. I was belted up and suffered
no injuries. My brother now owns an '84 626. I have a friend with an
'80 model. Niether has had to make any repairs.

P.S. I was in an accident in my old '72 Honda 600 (you know, the ones
that were even smaller than the old Civics). I suffered two tiny scratches
on my right arm when a Nova ran a light and broadsided me. The car was
totalled. I can't understand why only 1 in 7 people think it's worth their
effort to buckle up. Is this a form of evolution? (.5*:-) I wear a
helmet and leathers on my motorcycle too. I must be just a safety nut.
