From DOS: Create a dir called c:\test* where * = <alt>-254 (hold down alt and on the numeric keypad, type 254 and release alt). Now cd into the directory: cd \test* Create another directory: md test2 Copy a file into it: copy ..\autoexec.bat Substitute: subst z: c:\test* (you may have to add lastdrive=z to your config.sys file) From Win 3.0: Load File Manager Move to c: drive test* should not show a + even though it has a sub directory double click on test* and filemgr reports it is empty. try to move a file into test* and filemgr reports an error. Now move to z: drive. All the stuff is there! Kind of like a virtual disk drive that filemgr does not let you get into trouble with (ie. trying to copy from c:\test* to z:). Curiosity: <alt>-254 is the only key code I could find that experiences this behavior. I would like to know if this works for anyone else. I have tried it on two machines. -- Andy Register Internet: ar12@prism.gatech.edu Bitnet: aregiste@gtri01.bitnet -- Sometimes the Bears Win, Sometimes the Bulls Win -- -------- But the Pigs *Always* Lose -------- (author unknown)
