Earlier I posted a message describing a problem with getting Windows to talk to my HP LaserJet IIP. It appeared that somewhere a flag was probably not set correctly. Thanks to all for several suggestions, but none helped. Finally I cleared the several versions of Windows from my system, and borrowed a copy of the Windows disks from a friend. This time the installation went perfectly and everything appears to work. The ONLY differences were: - When asked during installation whether to (1) install printers, (2) read documentation, (3) install applications that it could find, I left all of these turned on. Previously, I had only requested printer installation. - I used a friends Windows disks, instead of the disks I had purchased. I don't know if my Windows disks had a bug, or if it makes a difference on how one responds to the installation options during setup, and I don't have the time to find out.
