[comp.windows.ms] Windows 3.0 GDI PostScript fonts

jlr1801@aim1.tamu.edu (Jeff Rife) (04/23/91)

I've just finished uploading two ZIP files full of Windows screen font
files. The two files are:

    gdips120.zip - 120 dpi (8514 resolution) 1:1 aspect ratio fonts
gdips_96.zip - 96 dpi (VGA resolution) 1:1 aspect ratio fonts

The files have small read-me inside, but here is the gist...

All 35 original PostScript fonts in 35 font resource files each containing
sizes 6,7,8,9,10,11, and 12. The fonts were created using original Adobe
outlines with Adobe's FOUNDRY program. The match to what ATM produces is
excellent, with line endings that match. The files are designed to
complement Adobe Type Manager by setting SynonymPSBegin=13.

There have been several recent posts asking for the bit-maps, and this was
the best I could do. The ZIP files are each > 512KB as is, and would have
been really huge if I would have created larger point sizes. As it is, the
un-ZIPped font files don't take up *too* much room, and the speed increase
is incredible. A must for working with 10 point New Century Schoolbook (one
of my favorites of the original 35). You can also reduce your cache a bit
with this technique, if memory is tight.

I also have EGA aspect ratio fonts available, and will upload them if demand
is large. Any problems, drop me some e-mail, I'll try to help.

These files were uploaded to cica.cica.indiana.edu [129.79.20.22] and
are currently in the pub/pc/win3/uploads subdirectory. They will be
moved soon to an appropriate subdirectory under pc/win3.

I'm sorry, it was late, but I forgot to mention that I placed them at cica,
as it now obvious. It's just that my brain turns off after midnight to
conserve power.
